Graduate Desirée Henry wins silver medal at IAAF World Championships

02 August 2017

City and Islington College alumnus, Desirée Henry won an amazing silver medal in the 4x100m women's relay at the IAAF World Championships in London.

It was an exhilarating race, but Desirèe and her team mates were pipped to first place by an impressive USA team.

Although their time of 42.12 was slower than their heat time, it was enough to land them the silver medal - an upgrade on last year's Olympic bronze.

Desirèe and her team mates, Asha Philip, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita, have time on their side, so we're looking forward to seeing how the athletes progress, and fingers crossed for a gold medal at the next Olympics.

Everyone at City and Islington College is very proud, Desirée!

Desirée studied BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport Science, you can find more information about the course here.

Here's what she had to say about her time at City and Islington College: “I cannot speak highly enough of Candi. The College has provided me with the perfect environment to learn about my passion – sport, and has given me the support I need to compete and train.

“If you come to this College and work hard you will succeed and make a lot of friends along the way.”
