Health and Social Care lecturer, Elaine Burston

Elaine Burston - Health and Social Care Lecturer

Elaine Burston has taught at the College for 9 years across all levels of Health and Social Care. She has developed courses herself, the latest being in nutrition, anatomy and physiology.

Before joining the College she worked in research at the Royal College of Paediatrics and has an MA in Medical Anthropology.

Elaine has taken part in a recent BBC documentary where she was asked to give expert analysis on a bogus agency that was illegally offering health and social care courses. You can read the story here.

Donna Alecks - Child Care Lecturer

Donna Alecks started her career as an Early Year’s Practitioner, specialised within her field and moved into Further Education to work within Child Care. She has recently completed a Masters at the Institute of Education. The subject of her dissertation which she studied in depth was ‘An Investigation of the Value of Embedding Learning Support Opportunities in a Further Education Environment’.

Donna is currently lecturing on the 16-18 Child Care programmes, the Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies and Primary Pathway where she is implementing what she has learnt.

I believe in supporting learners to build their confidence and self-esteem in order to reach their full learning potential. Teaching in both FE and HE offers learners the opportunity to engage in a subject that is fit for purpose and prepares them for either higher education or directly for employment.

Studying at City and Islington College provides students with an opportunity to become a reflective practitioner and move into a very rewarding career.”
