About the Course

This course aims to develop an awareness of domestic retrofit and will be your first step in upskilling to meet the retrofit demand.

The course will introduce you to retrofit, equipping you with knowledge of key technical refurbishment topics that are crucial to successful retrofit programmes. It is designed to improve your employability as employers are increasingly seeking staff who understand the fundamentals of retrofitting.

What Will I Study?

Undertaking this course will allow you to:

  • Interpret domestic retrofit information specific to the work activities.
  • Interpret health and safety information.
  • Identify the materials required for work activities in domestic retrofit.
  • Identify the risk of damage to the work and the surrounding area.
  • Understand the basic principles for domestic retrofit installation.
  • Understand how to carry out basic domestic retrofit installations.

What Will I Need?

Please be prepared to provide your residency documents such as a passport, EU citizen ID card, UK Birth Certificate or Biometric Card. If you have been in the UK for less than 1 years or have entered the UK with a visa you will need to provide evidence that you are eligible to study in the UK - your visa, your biometric card that covers the duration of your course or any relevant home office documents to support your residency should all be provided. If you’re an EUEEA or Swiss citizen we will need to see evidence of 'Pre-Settled' or 'Settled-status' documents. Also for funding purposes we would need to see evidence of payslips if working (within the last 3 months). If you are receiving benefits (e.g JSA, ESA, Universal Credit (UC), Housing benefits etc. please provide evidence of this).

You will need to be aged 19 or older and eligible to study in the UK. Upon enrolment, you will be asked to upload residency and income documents for college funding purposes.

What Can I Do After?

By studying this course you will gain an understanding of what domestic retrofit is, what it is supposed to achieve, what you need to know when working in the industry, and what to look out for when installing energy efficiency measures in homes.

After completion, you can progress on to further study in this field.
