About the Course

Would you like to develop your skills in academic writing and be able to use referencing with confidence?

Do you need to brush up on your existing skills?

Whether you are on a course now or are planning to undertake one which requires you to engage with academic writing or research, then this course is for you. 

This course has been designed to increase your awareness and knowledge of key aspects of academic writing and research skills as well as to support you in developing your study skills. You will focus on developing competencies in research skills, together with writing assignments following correct referencing conventions.

This course will substantially contribute to the success of learners who like to develop competencies in research skills, together with writing assignments with correct referencing. Once you have completed the course, you will have the opportunity to discuss with the course tutor the most appropriate progression routes onto further Teacher Training courses.

What Will I Study?

You will learn how to:

  • Explain the requirements of six common academic writing tasks
  • Identify the purpose of commonly used linking words and expressions in academic texts
  • Use Harvard referencing correctly for in-text quotations and reference lists

What Will I Need?

The candidates must be competent users of the English Language, have an interest in the field of education and have access to a computer for online learning.

In addition to the generic entry requirements which you have for non-accredited courses, the candidates must be competent users of the English Language, have an interest in the field of education and have access to a computer for online learning.

What Can I Do After?

Upon successful course attendance and completion, you will have the opportunity to discuss progression to our teacher training courses related to either generic teaching in FE or teaching subject specialisms in English or Maths.
