IT - Games Design - Level 3 - Extended Diploma
About the course
This exciting and challenging course gives you the skills and understanding of games design and construction over a two year period. The course builds upon skills in computing with art and design and you will be encouraged to become a forward thinker by developing and researching materials which will lead to the production of 2D/3D digital games. The course is designed to provide an educational foundation for a range of careers in the games, multimedia or creative arts industries. All students use a range of software packages and with these tools you will develop skills in the visual language of computer games and interactivity whilst also developing your knowledge to develop you own games from narrative creation, visual art and sound.
- A level 2 qualification, preferably in a IT background but other level 2 qualifications will be considered. Maths and English at grade 4 with the requirement to complete a diagnostic assessment for literacy and numeracy
Level 3 90-credit Diploma in Information Technology – Games Design (Year 1)
Students must complete 2 mandatory units:
Unit 1: Communication and Employability Skills for IT (10 credits - 60 GLH)Unit 2: Computer Systems (10 credits - 60 GLH)
Plus Optional units (70 credits) that provide a combination of 90 credits
Level 3 Extended Diploma in Information Technology - Games Design (Year 2)
This is 180 credits and consists of 3 mandatory units:
Unit 1: Communication and Employability Skills for IT (10 credits - 60 GLH)Unit 2: Computer Systems (10 credits - 60 GLH)Unit 3: Information Systems (10 credits - 60 GLH)
Plus optional units that provide a combination total of 180 credits
You will be taught by experienced specialist staff in the class room and following theory and practice of the subject you will carry out an assignment that is attached to each unit. Detailed information and guidance is provided on the requirements to support you as targets to complete are approached.
Assessment is carried by an assignment attached to each unit. You will also be expected to complete course work to deadlines and targets.
Success in your study can lead to employment or higher education where there are several degree pathways, such as, games design and computer animation.
