Business - Economics - Level 3 - Extended Diploma
About the course
Are you 16 -18 and interested in a qualification that will develop your practical understanding and skills in the business environment with a strong focus on Economics? If so, this two year BTEC qualification will support getting your career started or progressing to HE. This is a well recognised qualification that is equivalent to three A Levels over a two year period and will give you 180 credits towards any future educational aims. The skills and knowledge you will develop on this course are designed to meet the current demands of industry and commerce and are transferable to other industries which are popular in a wide range of careers.
The knowledge and supplementary skills you will acquire are those valued by employers as the course structure includes the strategic elements of finance and economics with an underlying knowledge of the finance markets in today’s economy.
- Grade 4 in GCSE English and Maths
- BTEC Level 2 Diploma with a Merit or Distinction and Functional Skills at Level 2
- A good reference, interview and assessment. Your commitment and interest in the subject will also be assessed during the interview process
- Willingness to study higher level Maths
Students must complete 4 mandatory units:
Unit 1: The Business Environment
Unit 2: Business Resources
Unit 3: Introduction to Marketing
Unit 4: Business Communications
Plus five units in the first year that provide an understanding of finance and economics. Year two will consist of nine further units taken from a selection concentrating on finance and management that will provide a deeper understanding of subjects learnt in the first year of study.
You will be taught by experienced specialist staff in the class room and following theory and practice of the subject you will receive a project brief, linked to an employer, where the criteria for each unit is embedded within the project. Detailed information and guidance is provided on the requirements to support you as targets to complete are approached.
Assessment is carried by completing an employer linked project, which embeds all units related to the course. The project is graded by achieving each task set out in the assignment brief. You will work closely with an employer brief which includes both theoretical and practical topics. This will give you both transferable practical skills and the theoretical ability to enhance your employability status with the purpose of recognising your ability to integrate the knowledge and skills gained on the course. The project will allow thorough investigation on a given subject within the Business Economics sector.
This course will support you in pursuing a career in a variety of industries where you may wish to develop further in a particular area of Finance and/or Economics. You may also wish to study other higher level qualifications in specialist subjects such as Accounting, Trading or Auditing or you could choose to build upon your Extended Diploma and enter university to continue studying Business at Degree level. You will find that Universities throughout the UK will value your achievement.
