Textiles with Fashion Pathway UAL Foundation Diploma
About the course
Do you love fashion? Is it your aim to study fashion and textiles at university? If you have A Level or Advanced Vocational Certificate qualifications, or are a mature student who has completed a preparatory art and design course, this course is for you.
You will need a portfolio of work and:
- Four GCSEs Grade 4 or above
- Or a BTEC Extended Diploma.
Adult students are welcome to have an interview and a review of their prior achievement.
For International students, equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered along with an IELTS score of 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill), or equivalent.
This course gives you an opportunity to try many aspects of art and design within your chosen pathway: textiles with fashion.
The broad experience and skills you acquire on this course will help you to explore your own potential and build a portfolio of work.
You will study contemporary art theory and practice, and will learn traditional skills combined with conceptual and innovative techniques. These will include skills in textiles, fashion illustration, drawing, colourwork, design development and presentation.
You will also participate in an end-of-year exhibition of work.
You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written assignments and presentations. Practical assessment will include a Final Major Project ending with a public exhibition of work.
On successful completion of this course, you will achieve a BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, awarded by Edexcel.
Following the course, you can progress to a range of related degree courses and a wide range of careers, including in the film and creative industries.
Last year, many of our Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students progressed to university, including a high percentage to colleges within The University of the Arts and Goldsmiths College.

Sinem was struggling with her self-esteem. As a hard-of-hearing student she struggles to communicate, but her confidence and skills have developed to the point she has now been awarded a £10,000 scholarship to study at the London College of Fashion.
She said: “Before coming to the College I wasn't very happy, but the course, my teachers and my classmates have changed my life.
“On the course I have studied textiles in depth and have experimented and learned new techniques. I love using pattern cutting and garment contraction creating contracted shapes. I am now never afraid to experiment and try out ideas. In the future I hope to own my label.”
