What is Clearing?
Clearing is a service that operates between July and September which enables you to find vacancies on Higher Education courses. If you have applied this year, but have not gained a place or have declined your offers, you may be eligible for Clearing.
How can I apply through Clearing?
From July, many of our Higher Education courses will be open for Clearing. At that time, we will ask you to call our Clearing hotline to secure your place
How do I find out what courses are available at City and Islington College during Clearing?
We advertise these on the pages in July each year.
Am I eligible for Clearing?
You are eligible for Clearing if you are not holding any offers of a university place.
I’ve applied to universities through UCAS, can I still apply through Clearing?
You can take part in Clearing if you have already applied through UCAS and you are in one of the following categories:
- You have not received any offers, have declined all of your offers, or have not responded to your offers by the date specified by UCAS
- You have not met the conditions of your offer (i.e. your exam results weren't as expected, and you haven't met the conditions of your offer)
- You have applied for one course which has been declined/unsuccessful and you have paid the full application fee
- You submitted your application via UCAS after UCAS closed on 30 June
What information should I have to hand when I contact City and Islington College to apply for a course in Clearing?
We will need the following information from you when you contact us:
- Your full name
- Your contact telephone/mobile number
- The name of the course you want to apply for
- Details of the qualifications you have
- Your UCAS ID number (if you have one)
Once you have contacted us, a course tutor will ring you to discuss your suitability for the course.
If you meet the course entry requirements, you may be offered a place on the course and informed of what you need to do next.
I didn't meet the conditions of my offer at City and Islington College and it was my only choice on UCAS. Will I be able to apply for the course again through Clearing?
Yes you will! From July, many of our Higher Education courses will be open for Clearing. At that time, we will ask you to call our Clearing hotline to secure your place.
If I am offered a place at City and Islington College verbally through Clearing, how much time will I have to consider the offer before accepting it on UCAS Track?
You will need to accept the offer as soon as you are certain that it is right for you. As places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, we would encourage you to accept your offer within 48 hours. Your place on the course will not be confirmed until you have done so.
I exceeded the conditions of my offer for my firm choice at another college/university. I now meet the entry requirements for a course at City and Islington College. Can I apply to this College instead?
You may be able to use the Adjustment process to apply to study a course at City and Islington College.
To be eligible to use Adjustment, your results must have met and exceeded the conditions of your conditional firm (CF) choice and you need to have paid the full application fee.
The option to register will be displayed in Track for all applicants whose place has been confirmed i.e. status has changed from conditional firm (CF) to unconditional firm (UF). However, you are only eligible if you have met and exceeded your original CF offer conditions.
I didn’t meet the conditions of my offer from another university/college, how can I apply to study a course at City and Islington College?
From July, many of our Higher Education courses will be open for Clearing. At that time, we will ask you to call our Clearing hotline to secure your place.
For some courses that we run with our partners, City University London, London Metropolitan University and the University of Hertfordshire, you will need to contact the university directly.
I accepted a place elsewhere but I have changed my mind and want to apply to City and Islington College instead. What should I do?
You will need to speak to the university or college whose offer you have accepted. If the university or college agrees to withdraw your offer, we can consider your application during Clearing.
Do I need to be available during Clearing or can my parent/friend contact you on my behalf?
You will need to be available as we will want to discuss your application and qualifications with you personally.
Why are courses available in Clearing?
We may have places available through Clearing for a number of reasons. It may be that we have allocated additional places to meet demand, or other applicants have not met the conditions of their offer.
