About

The Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship is a great opportunity for learners who want to develop their skills and knowledge in managing 
the supply, preparation and assembly of medicines and products: issuing them to patients, and other healthcare professionals and providing advice to patients to help them make effective use of their medicines.

You will be responsible for carrying out both routine and specialist services, including highly complex activities requiring professional judgement.

Who is it for?

New entrants working as Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians in any pharmacy setting to meet the requirements of the GPhC minimum 
educational standards.

Further Information

Apprentices who complete the Pharmacy Technician programme will aim to gain promotion to senior roles including Dispensary Manager, Stores and Distribution Manager, Education and Training Lead Technician, Procurement Lead Technician, Medicine Management Technician.

Progression

Learners who complete the Pharmacy Technician level 3 apprenticeship can look forward to a rewarding career in a growing sector. Pharmacy Technicians are registered professionals working within the regulatory standards for pharmacy, as set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Pharmacy Order 2010. They will have the skills and knowledge to provide high-quality patient-centred care, be able to effectively manage pharmaceutical stock and be able to accurately dispense a wide range of medications to patients. They will also be able to work effectively as part of a team and support the delivery of quality outcomes for patients.

Training

Training included in the programme:

  • Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians
  • 10 Occupational Duties (KSBs)
  • Functional Skills English and Maths Level 2 as needed

End Point Assessment

The 3 month EPA process will include your portfolio, an observation and professional discussion.

Pass, Merit and Distinction grades are available.

Next Steps

The next step may include a Level 4 Enhanced Practice programme, a Level 4 Project Management apprenticeship programme or a Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager apprenticeship.
