Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully we've given you a clear picture about what it's like to work here and provided all the information you need to make your application. However, if you've still got any questions, you might find the answers here.

How can I apply for a role?

You can submit your application to jobs@candi.ac.uk or via post.

How will I know you have received my application?

If you have applied via email you will receive a confirmation of receipt when you submit your application.

I am experiencing problems downloading job descriptions and application forms from the website. What should I do?

We may be experiencing technical problems with our website, please try again in 24 hours.

I submitted a completed application form, however, I have not heard anything yet. What should I do?

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, so if you have not heard from us within 28 days, please assume that your application was unsuccessful on this occasion.

If my application was unsuccessful can I re-apply for other vacancies?

We encourage applicants to apply for any positions for which they are suitably qualified.

I have just noticed an advert for a vacancy, however, the closing date has passed. Can I still apply?

No, if the closing date has passed we will not be able to accept further applications.

Do you have any tips for completing the application form?

With employment history start with the most recent, list all the employers you have worked for and provide details of the job title and the period you have worked for them as this information may be used to assess whether you meet the experience requirements of the post. Remember to list any breaks in employment giving reasons.

Think about whether the job description is one you would be interested in and whether you think you have the skills and experience to apply for the vacancy and how you would support this.

In addition to your qualifications obtained at school, college or university remember to list all the informal and formal training courses you have attended as this information may help assess whether you have a relevant qualification or meet some other requirement.

The supporting statement is the most important part of your application, as it is here that you have to make a case for your selection. Do not repeat your career history, use only the relevant parts.

Who should I nominate as my references?

You must give your present or most recent employer as one of your referees. If you are studying, please give your tutor as a referee. If you have not been employed, you may wish to give the name of someone who can comment on your ability to do the job. You should not give the name of a relative as a referee.

What can I expect from the recruitment process?

You will be interviewed by a panel of two to five people. Interviews last from half an hour to an hour. There will also be the opportunity for you to ask questions. Members of the panel will take notes during the interview. Depending on the seniority of the post, you may also be asked to prepare a presentation and/or task as part of the recruitment process.

I require a work permit, what should I do?

City and Islington College has a current Sponsorship Licence which enables us to support your application under the Points Based System Tier 2, providing you meet all the requirements for entry clearance. To do this, you will need a minimum of 70 points in order to qualify before a Certificate of Sponsorship can be offered.
