Destination: Winner of Gold for forensic science at World Skills UK – The Skills Show.
The course is fantastic. The facilities and teachers are excellent. I would encourage other students interested in this area to make sure, whether you are doing A Level, BTEC or Access, to keep studying science subjects so that you have the opportunity to take a course like this."
Destination: Human Social and Political Science at Cambridge University
I feel absolutely ecstatic. I’ve never been so proud and so happy. The teachers at City and Islington College have been really supportive and we developed a really helpful partnership together. But if it wasn’t for the Careers Office, I wouldn’t have even dreamed of applying to Cambridge. They really made me believe it was possible. In today’s political climate, I feel so excited and honoured to have the opportunity to study this subject at Cambridge.”
Destination: Going to study Mechanical Engineering at Queen Mary
Studying at City and Islington College was a really great experience. I met so many different people. The teachers helped me a lot, they guided me and gave me extra support throughout my A-Levels. I feel excited about starting my degree, it’s a challenge that will take me one step closer to my future.”
The course provided everything I needed to know for my career, helped me pass all of my exams and allowed me to meet other people that were interested in the same career path.”
Destination: Optometry, Manchester University
I have enjoyed my experience here. The Access course has enabled me to have the opportunity to go to university to study Optometry, something which I didn’t think would be possible having not gained any A levels. The teachers and staff are so friendly and helpful which has helped me to feel comfortable returning to education. “
Destination: Going to study Medicine at King's College London
The teachers at City and Islington allowed us to be independent learners, whilst providing the support we needed to be able to achieve. The fact that they taught beyond the curriculum ensured we had a well-rounded and thorough understanding of the subjects. I really believe that City and Islington has equipped me with all the skills I’ll need to succeed in my medical degree and I’m really excited about all the new challenges it will bring.”
Destination: Now going to study Chemistry at University College London
The teachers played a key role in my success because they were always there to help answer questions."
Destination: Going to study History of Art at University of Edinburgh
City and Islington gave me the platform to know what I wanted to do. They helped me foster really good skills that I didn’t know I had. Having the opportunity to curate an exhibition at the Islington Museum was perfect for including in my personal statement. I’m really excited to be moving on to another chapter in my life following a really great one at City and Islington.”
Destination: Teaching Assistant
After working in retail as a manager for 10 years, James decided to return as a student at City and Islington and pursue a career in childcare. When he graduates, James hopes to be kept on at his current placement with Sacred Heart School, and then do a Level 3 Supported Teaching and Learning in Schools course.
The College's reputation and recommendation from a friend encouraged me to return to Candi. My tutors have been an immense support and getting paid to work in a school while studying is great.
The best thing about the course was my placement at Sacred Heart School, and learning from the other teachers, LSAs and pupils. Both my teacher and assessor were available at all times - even outside College hours - with any queries or questions that I had.”
My father had always wanted one of his children to study Law and I am very proud that I have been able to do it. I want to encourage single parents to pursue education despite the barriers they face. The opportunities and support are there if you want to take an Access course. It is not an easy journey of course, but how far I have progressed from enrolling at the College to now is unbelievable.”
Destination: City University to study a degree in management
I did not realise before taking the course that I would be taught by teachers with such strong expertise, so I would encourage others to take the step and take advantage of the opportunity."
Destination: Going to study Law at City University London
I loved my time at City and Islington, made great friends and had amazing teachers who knew the balance between support and independence. My work experience on intellectual property law convinced me that I wanted a career in law - especially after doing a presentation for the Legal Head for ITV on copyright and trademark, for which I received really good feedback. I'm so grateful to City and Islington for everything they've done for me. I’m really looking forward to starting my degree in Law at City University."
I love studying at CANDI because the atmosphere is great, the teachers are friendly, you get to meet new people and always feel safe here. You get to do photoshoots and to study and work with models and hairdressers.
My ambition is to work in theatres and do special effects make-up. The College has helped me by providing lots of work experience.”
Destination: Medical Biosciences at the University of Westminster
Bradley left school at the age of 16 with few qualifications and went to work as a refuse collector, before moving onto becoming a lorry driver. He enrolled on an access to biomedical sciences course at the college, and a decision that would define his future. Still working as a lorry driver, Bradley was struggling to juggle the two things, sometimes staying up 24 hours straight to fit everything in. Bradley finished his course with nine merits and 30 distinctions, and offers to study biomedical science degrees followed from two unis.
I’ve got no regrets, I don’t think I’d have had as much determination to succeed if I hadn’t done it the way I had.”
Destination: Medicine at University of Southampton
City and Islington College has essentially been a great stepping stone for me; I wanted to go into medicine but lacked the appropriate A levels, so I looked for the right access course. Picking the right college was a big decision but I'm really glad I went with C&I as I now hold a conditional offer to study medicine at a reputable university. I believe as long as you put in the hard work and communicate any problems or uncertainties you have with your teachers, then C&I will help you to get where you want to be."
