Disability support

Disability support at City and Islington College

Additional Learning Support

We are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment and aim to make the most of every student’s learning opportunities.

It is important to us that students with disabilities and learning difficulties feel welcome and are supported throughout their time at college.

If you have an Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), please email this to the following address so that support can be arranged: CANDILDA&EHCP@candi.ac.uk

Examples of some of the types of support available:

  • BSL and communication support for deaf students
  • Note takers and specialist software for students who are blind or visually impaired
  • Support workers for those with medical or physical support requirements
  • Readers and extra time in exams for students with dyslexia
  • Individual support for students with mental illnesses
  • Students who have sensory or physical difficulties can have access to resources such as magnifiers, dictaphones and, in some cases, a laptop computer.

Mental Health and Well-being Support

We are committed to supporting students who experience any mental health difficulties at college and require well-being support.

These may include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Self-harming
  • PTSD
  • Schizophrenia
  • Psychosis

Our experienced team will provide information, advice and guidance regarding your mental health difficulties as well as making links with tutors to arrange reasonable adjustments where appropriate. They will also make links with external parties to ensure the student remains supported throughout their time at the college, and beyond.
