Academic or Vocational Study?
It’s worth knowing that whether you study A Levels, The
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or
Vocational qualifications you can go on to
university or go straight in to work.
Because of the quality of the teaching and learning at the
College and our strong links with business, our students are very
highly regarded by universities and employers.

stories of two students who chose different study
pathways when they went to City and Islington College.
A Level Pathway
A Levels are made up of an AS Level (Year 1) and an A2 Level
(Year 2). Each part makes up 50 per cent of the overall A Level
grade. They focus on traditional study skills and normally take two
years to complete full-time.
You can choose from a wide range of academic subjects, as well
as some work-related subjects. You can study a combination of
different subjects, that could lead to degree courses and
careers.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
The IBDP is an alternative to the A level route to University.
It is a complete 2 year programme, giving you a choice of subjects
within a structure that ensures a broad, rigorous education.
It is particularly suited to those who enjoy studying a range of
subjects, are well organised and enjoy other activities as well as
academic study.
It enables you to progress on to a range of different degree
courses and careers as it keeps your options open.
