Supported internships in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital

15 December 2016

City and Islington College has successfully developed an exciting supported internship programme in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital, Camden Local Authority and Project Search.

The internship programme at City and Islington College's Centre for Health, Social and Child Care offers the interns a fantastic opportunity to gain employability skills and knowledge and progress into paid employment. The programme was based at Marlborough Building and is now based at GOSH.

Students have the opportunity to work in portering, retail and catering and will have the opportunity later in the year to work on the wards. Students are based at GOSH from 9am – 5pm and spend most of their time training and working while being supported by Nikki Russell (Project Search co-ordinator) and a job coach..

Project Search is an international organisation which originated in Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in 1996. It supports the development of internships for people with learning disabilities. The aim of a supported internship is to offer people with learning disabilities the opportunity to learn skills to progress into paid employment.
