Outstanding students make it to Oxbridge14 August 2015
Two outstanding City and Islington College students have made it to Oxbridge after receiving their A Levels on Thursday 13th August.
Heather Cant, 18, got two A*and an A in her A Levels in English Language and Literature, Creative Writing, and Spanish while studying at the College’s Angel campus. She will now progress to St Anne's College, Oxford University, to study a BA in English and Spanish.
She said: “I am so happy to have received my results and to be progressing to one of the top universities in the world. I have really enjoyed studying languages at the College, and the careers service and Oxbridge Prospects have provided me with so much support to achieve my goal.”
“The highlight of my time at College has been studying creative writing, and being able to develop my writing. I did a summer work placement at the Florence Nightingale Museum in 2014, where I developed writing skills, and I took part in an Oxbridge Summer School, which helped me with my Oxbridge application.
“I would recommend my course to others – you develop your thinking and lots of skills that you can transfer to many different jobs.”
Ha Ly achieved an incredible 4 A*s in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Further Maths to progress to Cambridge University to study medicine. She said: "The College's careers service really helped me with my application, especially with mock interviews that they set up.
"The best things about my course were the demonstrations and practical sessions – they were really fun. My teachers have taught me so well and I would highly recommend them to any new student."
Peter Murray, Director of City and Islington’s Sixth Form College, said: “We are delighted that Heather and Ha have made it to Oxbridge and that their hard work has paid off. We wish them the very best for the future.”
City and Islington College’s Principal, Sir Frank McLoughlin, CBE, said: “The A Level results that our students, such as Heather and Ha, have achieved today show that there are fantastic opportunities at this College to learn, go to top universities and pursue rewarding careers.”
An impressive 99% of students passed their exams from 1,860 entries. Of the 1,860, 70% achieved grades A* - C, and 40% of all entries achieved grades A* - B.
