College Launches Accounting Academy17 July 2015
The Centre for Lifelong Learning in Finsbury Park now offers a broader range of accountancy courses, ranging from level 1 to level 3, all of which are accredited by The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).
Anthony Clarke, the Regional Development Manager from AAT, spoke to the attending candidates at the launch event about the opportunities a career in accounting provides. During the well-attended event the Director for the Centre for Lifelong Learning, Grant Glendinning, stressed the commitment the College has to supporting learners developing and progressing within the sector: “There is a genuine alternative to the university route in becoming a successful accountant. When taking the vocational path, you develop an understanding of accountancy while simultaneously gaining practical skills.”

Prospective accountancy students attend launch of new academy at City and Islington's Finsbury Park campus.
The AAT accounting qualifications cover a range of accounting and finance tasks. From double-entry bookkeeping, to management accounts, you will build your knowledge and transferable skills. Achieving a qualification will give you a firm grounding in accounting that will not only enhance your career prospects, but boost your future earning potential too. Your opportunities are endless with a career in accounting. You could go on to become a chartered accountant, manage a finance team for a large organisation, or even work for yourself.
Matt Wojtyniak, the Curriculum Manager for Skills Training at the College, said:"The bookkeeping tutors at City and Islington College have extensive experience in accountancy: most of them are still active in the field, meaning you will receive relevant training that is being currently practised."
Top reasons to consider a career in accounting:
- You will be in demand – every organisation needs to look after its finances, so there’s always a strong need for accounting staff. Make sure you stand out with a professional qualification.
- There’s never a dull moment – paying staff, buying and selling, and looking after profit and loss; you can chose from a range of roles within accountancy.
- You’ll be a valued professional – by keeping track of money coming in and going out, you’ll help the organisation you work for use its resources effectively.
- Your opportunities are endless – from setting up your own business to working part-time, you can choose from a range of employment options to suit your lifestyle.
You don’t have to go to university to be successful in accounting. By taking the vocational route, you will learn the theory of accounting while using your practical skills at the same time. Without the student debt.
