City and Islington Medical Science students contribute to important research study

14 February 2018

Eight City and Islington College students contributed important research to a Guy’s and St Thomas’ charity funded research study that started two years ago, and has recently been published.

The students, who were BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Medical Science, at our Centre for Applied Sciences (CAS) were responsible for recruiting young people to take part in the study, which trialled an ‘internet-accessed sexually transmitted infection (e-STI) testing and results service.’

After being given training by the staff at King’s College London, Amani, Hanna, Hasan, Layla, Mehanaz, Ugne, Muna and Paula visited colleges in London in order to explain to young people what the study was about, answering questions and recruiting them to participate.

The research was in the press, you can read an article by Nicola Davis of The Guardian here, or read the full study here.

This is just one example of the great work opportunities and experiences we offer to our students at CAS, if you want to study at our centre where we specialise in Applied Sciences head to our website and see how we can help you start a career in science.
Come to our Centre for Applied Sciences open day on Wednesday 21 February from 4pm-7pm. You can see our facilities, talk to our lecturers and our students about why CAS is so great!
