City and Islington A Level students celebrate another year of top grade results17 August 2017
Hundreds of City and Islington students are celebrating today - Thursday 17 August - after another year of top grade A-Level results at the north London college.
The college held gained an overall 96.3% pass rate, 65.4% A*- C and 100% pass rate in 10 subjects. AS results improved by 7.9% points to 88.6%. Two students have places at the University of Oxford, two students have places at the University of Cambridge and six have places to study Medicine.
Peter Murray, Director of City and Islington Sixth Form College said: “I am delighted that in a period of great change our students achieved top grades. We are expecting hundreds of our students to secure university places and are delighted that so many of them have places at Russell group institutions including Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, King's and Imperial.
“At least five of our students will be entering medical degrees. The students' achievements are due to their own hard work and the encouragement and inspiration they received from their teachers.”

Among the high achievers were students Kyle Holyoak Rackal has his place confirmed at Cambridge for Natural Science and Conor Muller who secured a place at University of York to study History. Connor Muller said: “City and Islington is the best college, I’ve left with great friends, the staff and teachers are really supportive, amazing careers advice, you really couldn’t find a better sixth form college.”
Mohamed Rashid Hammeda, who has chosen to defer hs place at the prestigious University of Andrews, said: "The College provides lots of opportunities for you to gain industry experience in the subjects you are studying. The teachers are really hard-working and you can ask them for advice at any time; they are happy to help you. It has been a really fun experience and everyone at the College has been really friendly."
Commenting on the results, Peter Murray added:
"These high grade A Levels are a credit to the dedication of both the students and our teachers. Our teachers always go beyond the curriculum and help the students understand more than what's needed to pass their A-Levels. They lay the foundations for our students to become independent learners, which is essential for succeeding at university and in life. We look forward to hearing about their future successes."
