City and Islington Sixth Form College Team were named winners for their innovative idea ‘Tracklet’, wearable technology to help friends stay safe on nights out. The Tracklet bracelet can be synced with up to 30 people and is a unique combination of an app and a bracelet.
City and Islington Sixth Form College students Deianira Urovi, Juhi Ashra, and Minhal Shahid have come out on top in this year’s Big Idea Challenge which began in 2015 as an enterprise competition for students and graduates.
The team were named winners for their innovative idea ‘Tracklet’, wearable technology to help friends stay safe on nights out. The Tracklet bracelet can be synced with up to 30 people and is a unique combination of an app and a bracelet.
The award was presented to the team last night at St James’s Palace by HRH the Duke of York. 17 colleges participated in the competition.
The Duke of York said, “The Big Idea Challenge brings learning and enterprise environments together to create ideas that can grow. This is the epitome of what enterprise and entrepreneurship is all about.
It is the job of universities to prepare people for the challenges they will face in whichever avenues they choose in life, and the Big Idea Challenge is a fine example of this. I’d like to thank London Metropolitan University and all of those involved in this project for the positive difference they are making.”
Developed with support from their mentor Katia Lang co-founder of Disrupts Media, ‘Tracklet’, is a creative design concept which is moving from the conceptual phase to investment.
After receiving the enterprise honour, Juhi Ashra said, “We wanted to come up with an idea that solved a problem affecting us all. As girls living in a big city, we’ve always found it a bit scary when we lose each other when we’re out, which can happen very easily. We think a lot of people can relate to this problem and have had really positive feedback to the idea.”
Deianira Urovi said: “It has been an amazing journey and it’s a great feeling to win the Big Idea Challenge. I never thought I’d ever meet a member of the Royal Family, so coming to St James’s Palace and receiving our award from the Duke of York is very special.”
