City and Islington College launches Extended Degree courses with London Metropolitan University

18 August 2017

City and Islington College is launching a new range of extended degrees in collaboration with London Metropolitan University with applications open now, for courses starting in September 2017.
The new one-year BA (Hons) and BSc (Hons) degree courses cover a broad range of subject areas, including health and social care, sports and exercise science, media and communications and events management.

Extended degrees provide applicants with an alternative gateway route into higher education for applicants who do not have the required entry qualifications for an undergraduate degree.

Students who complete the extended degree year benefit from a seamless progression onto the University’s three-year BA Hons courses and exposure to learning in a University environment.

This is the first time that the College has partnered with London Metropolitan University, where some of the modules will be taught, and heralds a closer working relationship between the two institutions.

Ken Chow, Head of Higher Education at City and Islington College, said: “What makes these courses particularly innovative is the blending of expertise from the College and the University. Students will benefit from using facilities at both institutions with teaching led by experienced professionals.

“We are also delighted to offer courses that widen access to student participation by providing an alternative gateway to HE and a seamless progression onto university degree courses.”

After a four-year programme of study, extended degree graduates will gain a full Bachelor's qualification and can apply for Student Finance funding for the full four years.
