Candi students head to the City to bank on their maths skills

30 January 2018

On Wednesday 11 students from year 12 and 13 spent the day at Deutsche Bank – a multinational investment bank with a London office at Liverpool Street.

Maths in the City is an opportunity for students to explore the variety of ways that maths is used in the workplace. Throughout the workshop students are introduced to a number of roles in professional and financial services that require mathematical ability, and find out how they could directly apply the maths they currently use at college in their future careers.

"It was great testing my maths skills in real world scenarios."

Students then have the opportunity to work through mathematical problems in the working world with employees from Deutsche Bank. The employees answer students’ questions about their careers and the world of work, giving them an insight into the working life of a person who uses maths in their job.

The final activity of the day was the ‘Trading Game’ – a fun and fast-paced exercise highlighting the key skills required to be a success in the City, such as working under pressure, decision making, confidence, and communication.
