What is this course about?

This exciting and unique course is the only one of its kind in London, no other degree course specifically prepares personal trainers to work in the fitness industry. The combination of practical and theoretical studies provides specialist knowledge and skills that will enable you to develop a private client base, and with a short fall in qualified and experienced fitness instructors, this qualification will enhance your employability within the fitness industry. The course is in partnership with London Metropolitan University.

Who is this course for?

Gym instructors, personal trainers and anyone in the fitness industry who want to gain a professional qualification to enhance their career progression.

What do I need to get on the course?

You will need one of the following, 2 A Levels at grade C or above, including Science (2 AS Levels are equivalent to 1 A Level), BTEC National Diploma/Certificate in a related subject, Advanced GNVQ with Merit or a recognised Access to Higher Education Certificate in a related subject. In addition, you will also need 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent.

It is highly recommended that students from vocational backgrounds apply to this course. A CYQ level 2 or equivalent with specific level fitness industry experience will be assessed on a case by case basis. It is recognised that mature students from vocational backgrounds such as personal trainers, gym instructors and fitness managers can benefit greatly from completing this course.

What will I study?

The course includes a combination of practical and theoretical studies including the following modules, working trainer, professional standards, fitness industry experience, business sense, strength and conditioning, corrective exercise specialist, physical nutrition, session planning, progressive programming, motivational psychology, case studies project, performance enhancement specialist, sports training principles, special populations, and exercise physiology.

What qualification will I get?

After the first year of study, you will be eligible for level 3 REPS Personal Trainer from the Register of Exercise Professionals.

There is an opportunity in the second year to gain extra industry qualifications.

On successful completion you will gain a Foundation Degree in Personal Training and Fitness Consultancy, awarded by London Metropolitan University.

What can I do after the course?

As our students are already working in the industry by the end of the course, many increase external client bases or gain higher placed employment within the fitness industry. London Metropolitan University provides progression onto the final year of a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science Honours Degree to applicable students.
