What is this course about?

This innovative course equips you with the skills and knowledge relevant to the needs of the fast paced fashion industry. The course is project, work and studio based, enabling you to explore and interpret themes as source material for the development of designs. The course is in partnership with London Metropolitan University.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for students who wish to develop careers in fashion and textiles, either progressing straight into employment or into the final year of advanced study.

What do I need to get on the course?

You will need one of the following, 1 A Level (2 AS Levels are equivalent to 1 A level), BTEC National Diploma/Certificate in a related subject, Advanced GNVQ with Merit or a recognised Access to Higher Education Certificate in a related subject. In addition, you will need 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent

Applications are welcome from mature students who may not have the minimum entry requirements, but have appropriate skills and knowledge, and some work experience. You should have English and Maths skills equivalent to GCSE level.

Applicants with other equivalent qualifications are encouraged to apply as are applicants with experience of working in the industry.

International applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis with equivalent qualifications being accepted.

What will I study?

Fashion and Textile subjects including: pattern cutting, garment manufacture, textile print, historical and contextual studies, professional studies, work experience, visual communication etc. Take a look at some examples of student work in the Fashion and Textiles Foundation Degree gallery

What qualification will I get?

On successful completion, you will gain a Foundation Degree in Fashion and Textiles, awarded by London Metropolitan University.

What can I do after the course?

Many of our graduates progress to an advanced BA Degree pathway or successfully take up employment in the fashion and textile industry.

I enjoyed the different ways of teaching, says Shahida, who studied Accounting Apprenticeship, gaining more knowledge and understanding on a weekly basis. In the future, I intend to study a degree in accounts and then become an accountant. Shahida was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for 'Apprenticeship in Accounting' 2006.
