What is this course about?

The Foundation programme is the first year of an extended 4 year degree at City University London.

The course is owned by City University London which franchises some of the teaching to staff at the Centre for Applied Sciences at City and Islington College.

Who is this course for?

The course is for individuals who intend to study for an Honours Degree in Biomedical, Electronic or Computer Systems Engineering.

What do I need to get on the course?

You will need one of the following, 2 A Levels, including Mathematics at grade D or above and Physics at grade E or above (2 AS Levels are equivalent to 1 A Level), BTEC National Diploma/Certificate with Merit in Mathematics/Engineering Science, Advanced GNVQ with Merit in Engineering or Science or a recognised Access to Higher Education Certificate in a related subject.  In addition, you will need 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent.

Applications are welcome from mature students who may not have the minimum entry requirements, but have appropriate skills and knowledge, and some work experience. You should have English and Maths skills equivalent to GCSE level.

Applicants with other equivalent qualifications are encouraged to apply as are applicants with experience of working in the industry.

International applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis with equivalent qualifications being accepted.

What will I study?

The course modules include mathematics, electrical principles, electronic design and laboratory work, science and study skills. The full time programme is normally taught over 4 days per week, 3 days at College and 1 day at City University.

What qualification will I get?

Students are issued with progress report at the end of the academic year.

A formal qualification is not applicable at this stage as the course is year one of a four year degree.

What can I do after the course?

The Engineering Foundation allows you access to  BSc/BEng degree in the following areas of Engineering such as, Biomedical, Computer Systems, Electrical and Electronic, and Multimedia and Intranet Systems.
