Pharmacy Services Apprenticeship
About the framework
The NHS Workforce Review indicates that the demand for pharmacy technicians and qualified pharmacy support staff is likely to increase.
The Pharmacy Services Apprenticeship offers an effective way of training professionals to meet this demand, and supports the health sector's vision to develop an increasingly skilled and flexible workforce, whilst maintaining high-quality and safe care for patients.
The apprenticeship is for individuals looking to start a career as a Dispensing and Pharmacy Assistant and provides training for a range of responsibilities within the pharmacy. These include the sale of over-the-counter medicines, providing information to customers on symptoms and products, prescription receipt and collection, assembling prescribed items, and ordering, receiving and storing pharmaceutical stock.
Applicants must be employed in the pharmacy sector and show enthusiasm for this type of work. There is no age limit for this apprenticeship, and no specific entry requirements.
The apprenticeship covers the technical skills and knowledge in the Level 2 QCF Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science.
An apprentice's practical competency will be assessed through real work activities in the Level 2 NVQ in Pharmacy Services Skills and Functional Skills in Maths and English.
