Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools - CACHE Level 2 Certificate
About the course
Working or volunteering in a school, after-school club or community centre? This part-time course is the perfect stepping stone to a further study or to a career as a recognised Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Special Needs Assistant.
You will need to be working or volunteering in a school environment (for at least 12 hours a week). You will also need an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check which costs approximately £50.
You will attend College one day a week. You will study a number of theoretical modules that underpin the overall aims of the qualification, including: providing support for learning activities, supporting child development, keeping children safe, contributing to positive relationships, and providing effective support to colleagues.
Assessment is by work in class, your portfolio and the results of your observation by the assessor.
You can progress to a Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Alternatively, if you are presently in a voluntary position at your school, this may be the qualification you need to become a member of staff.
Studying: Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
After working in retail as a manager for 10 years, James decided to return as a student at City and Islington and pursue a career in childcare. At the end of graduation James hopes to be kept on at his current placement at Sacred Heart School and then do a Level 3 Supported Teaching and Learning in Schools course.
“The reputation of the college and recommendation of the course from a friend encouraged me to return to Candi. My tutors have been an immense support and getting paid to work in a school while studying is great.”
