Welcome from the Principal

Courses at our Centres are in high demand, so it is advisable to apply early to have the best possible chance of success.

I am very pleased that you are considering joining us at City and Islington College.

Our claim to be London’s Leading College is not a hollow boast. The College was inspected in May 2008 and Ofsted made the following judgements:

Summary of grades awarded:
Effectiveness of provision: Outstanding: Grade 1
Capacity to improve: Outstanding: Grade 1
Achievement and standards: Outstanding: Grade 1
Quality of provision: Outstanding: Grade 1
Leadership and management: Outstanding: Grade 1
Equality of opportunity: Outstanding: Contributory Grade 1

We are the only college in London to have been awarded an outstanding grade across every measure. The Inspectors reported:

“The overall quality of provision is outstanding, and highly skilled teachers motivate and bring out the best in their students through outstanding teaching and learning. In addition to this, students enjoy their time at the College and speak highly of their teachers, with many exceeding the expectations they had when enrolling”.

A track record of success

This is not an overnight success story but the culmination of many years of dedicated work by exceptional staff. Other indications of our success are:

The only college to be twice awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize.
An A Level pass rate of 98% across 42 subjects.
651 young people to university in 2008
Partnership arrangements with University College London (including a special preparatory programme for potential medical students), City University and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.
Specialist vocational courses ranging from Child Care and Sports Sciences to Beauty Therapy and Business Studies.

Outstanding student support and facilities

The quality of our buildings and specialist facilities are recognised as being among the best in the country and compare well with many universities.

In addition we have teams of specialised staff to offer you support be it help with English and Maths or on applying to university.

Oluwabunmi Ilesanmi

Oluwabunmi came to England a year after finishing at her secondary school in Nigeria and studied Health Studies BTEC National Diploma at City and Islington. We had a lot of support, she says, and if we didn't understand something, we could go to our support classes and they would definitely explain and help us to grasp it. I also found our Centre (the Centre for Applied Sciences) convenient because it provided very good facilities for the practical work on our course.
