About the course

Would you like to work in catering? Does a learning difficulty make training difficult for you? This course could be the first step you need to a career in catering.

You need to have previous catering experience and be keen to move into employment.

Covering a whole range of practical skills, this course prepares you for work. You will learn about food preparation, menu planning, food hygiene, healthy lifestyles, running a café and planning for events.

You will also develop valuable transferable skills to prepare you for the world of work, including team-working and relating to people. You will also improve your literacy and numeracy skills, and will take part in work experience in the local community.

You will be assessed through completing a portfolio of work. Activities will involve both practical and written tasks which will be assessed through a range of methods.

On successful completion of this course, you will achieve the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate as well as qualifications in Hospitality and Catering and Work Skills. You will also achieve internal qualifications that recognise other skills that you develop.

Following the course, you may progress into work or further training in Hospitality and Catering.
