Italian A Level
About the course
Being confident in a language will enhance your employability, increase your communication skills and give you an educational advantage in an increasingly international and competitive world.
Employers consider a second language to be highly desirable and the academic rigour of language study is highly valued by universities. This two-year course will not only develop language skills you learned at GCSE level (or overseas equivalent), it will extend your knowledge of the Italian language and Italian culture as a whole.
Watch our video to find out what our students have to say about studying a language.
- You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A Level courses
- Grade B or above in GCSE Italian
- Individual cases will be considered if you have a bilingual background.
On this course you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the language by studying social issues and trends as well as political, intellectual and artistic culture.
The course will include the study of a film and a book. You will also prepare a research topic for your speaking exam. Assessment will test all four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Assessment is by oral and aural testing, along with written and translation work. Successful completion of the first year gains you an AS Level in Italian. Successful completion of the second gains you an A Level in Italian.
Language skills are highly prized by both Universities and employers. Good results in your Italian A Level could see you study Italian or Modern Languages at University. Particularly fluent speakers can start using their skills as translators or copywriters straight away.
