About the course

If you have a keen interest in Information Technology and its uses in contemporary society then this course is for you. This study programme is designed for individuals who want a career in IT, media or digital design. It is a competence-based qualification that gives you the valuable skills and knowledge you need to progress to a level 2 qualification in Business, Media Production or IT. This hands-on, vocational qualification has been developed in consultation with employers to prepare you for the workplace. During the course, you will have the opportunity to work with employers to develop your technical and work skills.

  • Entry Level 3 qualification (not ESOL) with Entry level 3 Mathematics and English


  • GCSE Mathematics (E) and GCSE English Language (E)

The study programme consists of the vocational pathway plus English and Mathematics. Units include:

  • Functional Skills Level 1 Mathematics

You will be assessed through course-work, presentations and tests throughout the course.

Successful completion of the study programme would allow you to progress to a related level 2 course.

Gulsah Sami

Studied: BTEC Diploma for IT Practitioners

Destination: Working for Halifax bank

Between 2009 -11 Gulsah Sami took a BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners at the Centre for Business Arts and Technology. After finishing her course with two distinctions and a merit she graduated to City University to study Computer Science..

She said: “I had always had an interest in IT and had heard good things about the course at City and Islington College online.

“The teachers at the College were very inspiring and would support you with any problems you had that would help you progress. We are still in contact with the teachers at the College and they still support us and give us advice.

“I learnt a lot on the course which has really helped me in my roles at Virgin Media and Halifax.”
