Introduction to Early Years Education and Care (QCF) - CACHE Level 2 Certificate
About the course
Are you interested in working in childcare? Are you a volunteer in a pre-school or nursery? This introductory course will allow you to take the next step in your career whether as a Nursery Assistant, Classroom Assistant or Pre-School Assistant.
- You will be working or volunteering in a nursery, crèche or children¿s centre.
- You will be interviewed about your knowledge and skills prior to full enrolment.
- You must also have undergone an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check which costs approximately £50. Please bring this with you to your interview.
You will learn about all aspects of children's care and education through theory lessons in college. The units you will study include:
- Introduction to Communication
- Introduction to Equality and Inclusion
- Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People
- Supporting positive behaviour
Additionally you will have the opportunity to develop your functional skills in English and Maths as these are important skills needed in the workplace.
You will be assessed by written coursework, by an observation of your methods in the workplace, and sometimes by a task set by the examining board (CACHE).
Upon achievement of this qualification, learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors, such as Nursery assistant, Classroom assistant orPre-school assistant.
You could also progress onto the CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other Level 3 qualifications relating to Child Care.

She studied until Level 2 before gaining work experience as an early year’s practitioner at Noel Park Day Centre in Turnpike Lane.
"I studied Level 2 at the College but wanted to start gaining work experience. I got a job Noel Park Day Centre but to progress further. I returned to study at the College and am now working as an early year’s practitioner. My teachers were always very supportive and really helped me get into a rewarding career."
