Wider Information Set

At City and Islington College we are committed to making it easier for students and the wider public to access the information that we publish about ourselves and our courses.

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has specified the information they expect Higher Education providers to make available online or by request. This information forms part of what HEFCE has described as a Wider Information Set (WIS).

The information and documents below form the Wider Information Set for City and Islington College’s HE provision.

More information about the Wider Information Set is available from HEFCE

What is the purpose of the Wider Information Set?

  • To inform the public about the quality of HE, and in particular, help provide potential students with information that will help them make a choice about what and where to study
  • To help provide evidence to contribute to quality assurance processes in institutions (specifically reviewed by the QAA)
  • To help provide information that institutions can use to enhance the quality of their HE provision.

The links below will point you in the direction of information which we hope you will find useful.

Information about us as an institution

Quality Assurance policies and processes

City and Islington College works with two Higher Education institutions, City University London and London Metropolitan University. We also deliver Higher Education programmes through the awarding body Edexcel.  In all cases the quality assurance methodology follows the requirements of the validating institution or awarding body. City and Islington College has developed quality assurance policies and processes which enable the College to operate all qualifications within a framework which is consistent with the requirements of the Quality Assurance Agency and UK Quality Code.

The College’s approach to the management and assurance of academic quality and standards is discharged through two formal deliberative committees that reinforce its commitment to the academic leadership of its growing Higher Education provision: the Higher Education Quality and Standards Committee (HEQSC); and the Higher Education Business and Financial Planning Committee (HEBFPC).

Partnerships

City and Islington College has two significant higher education partnerships, City University London and London Metropolitan University. Both universities validate all of the College’s Foundation Degrees and BSc (Hons) top-up courses.

Both partnerships are underpinned by an Institutional Memorandum of Agreement, which clearly details the responsibilities of each partner. In both cases the validating institutions set the framework for the academic standards to be delivered, monitored, assessed and validated. City and Islington College is responsible for meeting these standards and complying with the academic requirements. All requirements are consistent with the UK Quality Code for Higher Education of the Quality Assurance Agency.

The College also offers Higher National Diplomas through the Awarding Body Edexcel. These awards comply with the academic requirements of the Awarding Body. The College is responsible for the delivery, assessment and internal verification of the standards which are externally moderated and verified by the Awarding Body.
