Graphic Communication A Level
About the course
This creative course encourages you to develop your skills as a practicing designer. You will be introduced to a variety of projects with the intention to build on your design skills, both digital and hand-made approaches. You will build a portfolio of work as a result of this before consolidating your learning within a personal investigative project and an externally set assignment.

- You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A Level courses, which are based on your GCSE results.
- In addition, you will need a grade C or above in GCSE Art although students will be assessed on individual merit
- Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered.
- IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill) or equivalent.
On this course, students are encouraged to experiment with a range of graphic processes. Drawing, mark-making, print making, typography, illustration, photography, digital design and animation (including the Adobe Creative Cloud suite) are just some of the techniques explored. You will also develop a critical understanding of contextual sources that support and develop your designs.
Assessment takes place regularly on the course to provide feedback to develop your visual artwork and written components. The course contains two assessed components: a personal investigation portfolio and an externally set assignment.
The course has a successful progression record to both Art Foundation Diplomas and Design related or Architecture degree courses (including animation and advertising). University of the Arts, London (UAL) and Ravensbourne are popular destinations of our students. Students who leave education or take a gap-year find work in design-related employment or internships.
