About the course

If you have a real flair for Maths and a drive to direct your skills at practical mathematical fields like Mechanics and Statistics, this two-year course is just for you. It goes far beyond the standard A Level curriculum and is an ideal preparation for a Maths-based University degree.

  • You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A Level courses, which are based on your GCSE results.
  • Grade 9 in Higher Level GCSE Maths
  • If you have GCSE Maths at grades 6-8 you will need to pass a Maths test before enrolling
  • This subject must be taken in combination with Maths A Level

Example Maths Test [Word]

International students:

  • Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered.
  • IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill) or equivalent.

You will study 12 modules in two years, leading to two A Levels: Maths and Further Maths. In the first year, you will study three Core modules (Core 1 to Core 3), one Further Maths module (Further Maths 1) and two applied modules (Mechanics and Statistics). In the second year, you will study three additional Core maths modules (Core 4, Further Pure 2 and Further Pure 3) and three applied maths modules (Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Maths).

Successful completion of the first year leads to an AS Level in Further Mathematics. Successful completion of the second year leads to an A Level in Further Mathematics. Both years are assessed by written exam.

Maths and Further Maths are among the bedrock qualifications of the education system, prized by universities and employers alike. An A Level in Further Maths could lead you into the study of Maths, Applied Maths or the Sciences at University level. The range of possible jobs is very wide - taking in air and space travel, disease analysis and internet encryption.
