What is this course about?

This course offers you a great opportunity to study science and to progress to a wide choice of courses at Advanced Level.

Who is this course for?

Young people aged 16-18 wanting to progress onto higher level study in health, medical and forensic sciences, or optics.

What do I need to get on the course?

Four GCSEs at grade D or above,

or

BTEC Introductory Diploma with merit or distinction and key skills at Level 1.

You should have an interest in science and want to succeed.

We will interview you to assess the right level of study.

What will I study?

You will study maths, Information Technology, communication and a range of science subjects, together with some specialist options.

Your progress is assessed throughout the year by a series of assignments, projects and minor tests. You will study combined science units, including Applications of Chemistry, Biology and Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, as well as Science and the World of Work. You will also study English, ICT and numeracy.

The course includes support with your English and extra help is available for all students who need it.

What qualification will I get?

BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science.

What can I do after the course?

Students who successfully complete the intermediate level can go to the BTEC National Diploma in Science or a variety of BTEC National Diploma courses such as Sports Science, Health Studies, Forensic Science, Ophthalmic Dispensing, Computer Studies or Engineering.

Alternatively, you could enter employment within the broad science/medical industry.
