About the course

The CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QCF) prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with, and care for children from birth to 5 years. You'll also gain knowledge essential to caring for children aged 5 to 7 years.

After completing this qualification you will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators.

Learners will need to be:

  • working,
  • volunteering
  • on a practical placement as the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations.

Learners must achieve 23 mandatory units covering the following themes:

  • Theme 1: Health and well-being
  • Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
  • Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
  • Theme 4: Professional development

Assessment is carried out in the workplace by a qualified assessor and you will also be required to produce a portfolio of evidence.

After achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators.

Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors such as:

  • practitioner in day nurseries
  • practitioner in nursery schools
  • practitioner in reception classes in primary schools
  • pre-school worker
  • home based child carers.

Sam Smith has always been passionate about caring for and working with young children.
She studied until Level 2 before gaining work experience as an early year’s practitioner at Noel Park Day Centre in Turnpike Lane.

"I studied Level 2 at the College but wanted to start gaining work experience. I got a job Noel Park Day Centre but to progress further. I returned to study at the College and am now working as an early year’s practitioner. My teachers were always very supportive and really helped me get into a rewarding career."
