About the course

Do you enjoy cooking? Does a learning difficulty make training difficult for you? This course offers you a great opportunity to gain catering experience.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course, but you need to be keen to work in catering and able to commit to a two-year course.

Covering a whole range of practical skills, the course focuses on creating healthy, organic and vegetarian food, and selling this to staff and students at the College¿s Centre for LifeL ong Learning.

As well as developing skills in preparing and cooking food, food hygiene and menu planning, you will gain an understanding of how to run a café, including dealing with customers and taking payment. You will also have opportunities for work experience by catering for events inside and outside the College.

In addition, you will develop skills that you can use in all areas of your life, including team-working, effective communication, and meeting and relating to people.

Assessment is by module coursework, practical project work, written assignments and communication skills developed through presentations.

As a new student arriving at College, Josh was apprehensive about the unfamiliar environment that he found himself in. Showing dedication and bravery, Josh has transformed from the person he was 2 years ago.

He seeks and embraces responsibility, utilises his initiative to achieve his goals and is ever more willing to embrace the ‘new’. From being able to initiate and maintain conversations, express himself with clarity and depth, to drawing, planning and constructing his wood projects, Josh epitomises the very essence of personal growth.
