Apprenticeships for School Leavers

Apprenticeships for Adults

What are Apprenticeships?

Put simply, Apprenticeships are paid jobs. Apprentices get ongoing training and nationally recognised qualifications. Whether applicants are looking for a job that enables them to continue learning, or are already in employment and want to gain further qualifications – Apprenticeships allow them to do either.

Work-based learning

Apprenticeships are practical work-based learning courses. Apprentices work towards a work-based qualification such as a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and other nationally recognised qualifications. Skills are learnt on-the-job to ensure they fit the needs of business and industry.

Earn and learn

Apprentices are employed just like other staff and receive a wage from day one of their Apprenticeship. There is no set rate of pay for apprentices, but all or our apprentices usually receive at least £100 a week.

Training

Apprenticeships offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills they need to succeed in the workplace. Most training takes place on-the-job. Apprentices complete their training schedule by attending college. This can be on either day release, or in blocks, depending on the employer’s requirements.

Apprenticeship levels

We offer Apprenticeships at two levels: Apprenticeships Level 2 (equivalent to five good GCSE passes) Advanced Apprenticeships Level 3 (equivalent to two A level passes)

Who are Apprenticeships for?

Apprenticeships are open to people of all ages, provided they living in England and are not already in full-time education or training.

Our child care and hairdressing Apprenticeships are for people already in employment, but all others are open to applicants already in employment and those who need to find a job.

Progression

Apprenticeships are very rewarding. Because they provide the skills employers want, they give Apprentices the underpinning knowledge to succeed in the real world.

We offer some Advanced Apprenticeships and a range of higher education courses, that may be a natural progression from some Apprenticeship programmes.

I found that my course was a creative and practical experience that allowed me to get a better understanding about working with children, says Alema, who studied on the Child Care and Education Diploma. She is now continuing her studies on a degree course in education at London Metropolitan University.
