Advanced Learner Loans

If you are aged 19 or over and want to study an Access to Higher Education Diploma, a Level 3 -6 Certificate or Diploma, there is help available to fund your course. Find out more by visiting our financial support section . If you successfully go on to complete your degree, then the Access loan will deducted from your student loan.

Assessments

Assessments are in Room 3.03b and will include a brief talk, an English and Math’s assessment online and written, this will take approximately 2 hours. We have two pathways which include the Preparation for Access (Skills) if learners need to brush up on literacy skills to enable them to progress onto the Access to HE Diploma and our direct entry on to our Access HE diploma route.

Dates for assessments are: Wednesday 29th March 2017 at 2.30pm, Wednesday 19th April 2017 at 2.30pm, Wednesday 17th May 2017 at 2.30pm, Wednesday 14th June 2017 at 2.30pm, Wednesday 12th July 2017 at 1.00pm

About the course

This course is for people who wish to study Accountancy or business-related degree at university but who currently lack the necessary qualifications to apply. It is the ideal first step to a career in Accountancy, Business, Management, Finance, Marketing, Public Relations, Human Resources, Hospitality, Leisure, Tourism and public sector organisations.

  • All applicants must have a minimum Grade C in GCSE Maths.
  • It would be an advantage if you have undertaken work experience or voluntary work in a relevant field, where you have had the opportunity to demonstrate your organisational or administrative skills.
  • Your motivation and commitment to the course will be tested at interview.

For International Students

  • Along with the above qualifications, you will also need an IELTS 5.5 (with at least 5.0 in each component), or equivalent.

You will study from a range of options including Academic Study Skills, Business Studies, Economics, Marketing, ICT or Accountancy and Finance options. To be accepted for the Accountancy and Finance option you will have to pass a further assessment.

You will also have a personal tutor who will support you during the year and who will advise you on your applications to higher education institutions. The course requires between 2.5 to 3 days attendance each week. You will also be expected to undertake private study of 10-15 hours each week in addition to this.

Assessment is by coursework and occasional written examinations.

You can progress to a range of possible degrees in Accountancy, Business, Finance, Business, IT, Marketing, Hospitality, Tourism, Human Resources, Law or similar fields. The college is able to offer a guaranteed place on The BA (Hons) in Business or the LLB (Hons) degree courses at The University of Law subject to tutor recommendations. There are also bursaries and scholarships available to students once they pass the access course too.
