Academic English as a Foreign Language - IELTS

About the course

This course is for adults who are about to enter Higher Education in Britain, but who need a specific level of fluency in English in order to enrol. This course will train you to pass the International English Language Testing System examination, with a specific emphasis on Academic English.

You need a conditional offer of a place at British university, or a definite and demonstrable intention to attend a British university in the next academic year. You need to be at least 18 years old.

This course will prepare you for the IELTS exam, including reading and writing academic texts as well as a focus on listening and speaking. Class sizes are kept small to maximise learning for everyone.

Assessment is the IELTS exam, for which you will need to pay a £120 registration fee and for a £20 course book.

You take up your conditional offer at University, or ready yourself to apply for University next year.

Lina Zewdie

Lina Zewdie

Studied: ESOL 16-18 Programme

Lina Zewdie arrived from Eritrea in September 2012 and spoke no English.

Lina said: “The thing I like most about my course is that I am improving my English and learning a lot of different things. All of my teachers are very helpful and lovely. I also made some new friends.

“The best thing was that I have met a lot of new people. All my teachers are very helpful which was good for me as I didn't know anything about London or England when I came here.

“In the future I would like to become a dentist, and know to achieve this I have to plan very carefully.”
