Studied: Access to Higher Education Diploma in Social Work
Now studying a BA in Social Work at Middlesex University
Byron Baker grew up in care until the age of 17. He had always wanted to be a social worker and this year his dream came true after he passed an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Social Work at the College. He is now studying Social Work at Middlesex University and in the future intends to work with disadvantaged children.
He said: “I knew through my experiences growing up I could help other disadvantaged children in Islington. I want to inspire others to have the mentality that just because you’re in care doesn't mean you can’t achieve anything. The psychology modules on the Access course were fascinating for me. They gave me answers as to why I had felt like I did. The College nurtures you back into education and it was very satisfying to get four university offers.”
