Going to university

A high number of our students progressed to higher education in 2009, with 1,141 students securing places at universities. This makes us one of the country’s most successful sixth form colleges, a particularly impressive achievement for an inner city institution.

Profile of students progressing to higher education:

  • 73% from widening participation postcodes, compared to a national average of 25%
  • 75% were from Black and Asian ethnic minority groups
  • 85% were under 25 years old, of which 61% are under 19 years old
  • 15% were over 25 years old

The course is really exciting, says Jada, who is currently studying Dance BTEC National Diploma. We stepped out of the box and studied topics such as surrealism, which I really enjoyed. I want to be involved with everything - singing, dancing and acting.
