Candi celebrates International Women’s Day

Staff and student from all over City and Islington College converged on the Atrium at the Centre for Lifelong Learning on Wednesday 3rd March to celebrate International Women’s Day which takes place officially on March 8.

Attendees at the event had a chance to discuss their own views on women’s issues and also enjoyed a packed programme of events which included singer Angenta Blackwood, dancer Sheila Appiah, motivational speaker Sacha Corcoran, Cheryl Reid from the Red Cross, and an informative and personal talk about Life and Human Rights for women in Zimbabwe by Josephine Zhuga.

Mary Dakin, Deputy Director at the Centre for Lifelong Learning comments,

“This was the best celebration ever of International Women’s day at the Centre. I would like to offer my warm thanks to all the performers and the team that put together such a wonderful exhibition.”

International Women’s Day has been running since the early 20th Century. Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, Government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatrical performances, fashion parades and more.

I've always had a keen interest in media-related subjects, says Marvin, who is now in the final year of Media (E Media) BTEC National Diploma. Over the years, the teachers have really helped me to progress! Once I've finished the course, I'm off to university to study animation, and then I'll get a job in this field. Marvin was awarded The David Dorne Award for outstanding achievement in Media Production 2006.
