Students Perform at Lords for Cricketing Fundraiser

12 March 2010

City and Islington College students performed at the Lords Cricket Ground last week as they helped launch a new charity for young people.

The Inspire and Achieve Foundation staged the event to raise funds to create a centre for young people not in education, employment or training, known as NEET’s.

Four BTEC National Diploma Music students performed at The Home of Cricket and they were joined by some illustrious guest speakers, including former England cricket captain Graham Gooch OBE; former Indian cricketer and current Indian Premier League referee, Farokh Engineer and Richard Noble OBE, holder of the land-speed record between 1983 and 1997.

The event was backed by several major businesses and organisations, with sponsors including the University of Nottingham, Lloyds TSB and City & Guilds.

Robert Kennedy, Music Lecturer, said: “The students performed brilliantly and I am very proud of them. The experience of performing at such a big venue in front of a large audience will have done their confidence the world of good. It was a great evening which was very well received.”

Approx £40,000 has been raised thanks to the combined efforts of The Inspire and Achieve Foundation and everyone who attended.

I always received one-to-one feedback with a tutor after handing in an assignment, which was very encouraging and motivated me to keep going. I would recommend this College because the tutors all have time for the students and are really helpful and supportive in so many different ways. Beverley studied on the Health and Social Care Professions Access to HE.
