City and Islington signs Progression Agreement with Birkbeck

4 January 2010

Representatives from City and Islington Sixth Form College recently attended a formal signing of a Progression Agreement with Birkbeck, University of London. The agreement establishes a commitment on the part of the School to develop a relationship with those students from the College who wish to study Law, Philosophy and Psychology and for whom Birkbeck is the best place to do that.

In addition to allocating a certain number of places to those City and Islington students who meet the entrance criteria, the Agreement will also see visits to the University, talks on subjects relevant to the AS/AL curriculum being given by University research staff to students, and an essay writing competition in Spring to be marked by Birkbeck academics.

Keren Abse, Director of City and Islington Sixth Form College comments:

‘This Agreement affirms the already strong relationship between City and Islington College and Birkbeck. I am delighted that City and Islington students will be able to benefit from both the excellent teaching and facilities here at the college but also the academic expertise of Birkbeck.’

The Sixth Form College has fantastic science facilities, said Hazel, who did her A-levels at the College and who intends to go on to university to study medicine. The course was really good, the teachers were always ready with help and so were the office staff. I would recommend the College without hesitation and in fact, my sister is coming here next year to study!
