Ex City and Islington student appointed New Chief Executive for Islington Chamber of Commerce
An ex pupil of City and Islington College has recently became
the new Chief Executive for The Islington Chamber of Commerce.
Ronke Lawal, joins the Chamber after spending five years running
her own business as an advisor to small enterprises, mainly on
business development, marketing, events and PR. She studied for A
Levels in English Literature, Business Studies, Sociology and Maths
at City and Islington College, after joining from Haggerston Girls
School in Hackney.
The new Chief Executive is thankful for her time at City and
Islington and praises the College’s Business A Level for preparing
her for the big world of Business. She says: “The course tutors and
challenging and diverse nature of the course gave me an insight
into the world of working in business and solidified my interest in
the subject.”
For those Business students who wish to follow in her footsteps
or make it big in business, Ronke has some useful advice. She says:
“I would definitely value the tools and resources that your course
tutor provides you with (I still refer to my old A – Level business
text book!), start networking NOW – any events or online business
forums that you can become part of are great as it helps to gain a
working knowledge of the industry.
“Keep abreast of what’s happening in the business world so that
you sharpen your know-how of your industry. Get a mentor or try to
find work (paid or unpaid) in business to build up your repertoire
early; the more experience & knowledge you have, the better
when trying to get into the industry.”.
