Partnerships

We work in partnership with many other organisations to ensure the success of our students.

Working with universities:

  • Going to university

More than 1000 of our students go on to higher education every year. All of our Centres have good links with a range of universities, including London Metropolitan University [external website] and Middlesex University [external website]. We have a special partnership with two universities - University College London and City University London.
  • Partnership with University College London

There is a special partnership between City and Islington Sixth Form College and University College London (UCL) [external website] - one of the top performing universities in the UK. Under this arrangement, UCL provides stimulating and intellectually challenging enhancement programmes for students at the Sixth Form College who demonstrate an exceptional ability and enthusiasm for their studies. UCL also provides careers guidance and support to prepare our students for studying at university level.

Additionally, there are opportunities for teachers at the Sixth Form College to engage in educational research projects at UCL, and the university is helping to shape future developments at the Sixth Form College through its representation on the College's Governing Body.
  • Partnership with City University London

We also have a partnership with City University London [external link], one of London's leading universities for business and the professions. The partnership provides additional opportunities for students on our vocational courses. The programme includes master classes, visits and mentoring schemes, all aimed at increasing students' skills and achievements.
  • Foundation degrees

We work in partnership with London Metropolitan University, City University London and Queen Mary, University of London to provide foundation degrees in a range of subjects.

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC)

The LSC [external website] is a national organisation funding further education, including the majority of our courses - particularly those that lead to qualifications. The regional office, London Central Learning and Skills Council, helps us to plan our provision so that we meet the needs of London residents and the local economy.

Islington Council and the local community

We work closely with Islington Council [external website] to plan courses that meet the needs of local residents - including classes for students with learning difficulties and disabilities. We run courses in community venues throughout the borough of Islington.

City of London Corporation

We also have a partnership with the Corporation of London to deliver their adult education programme in community venues in the City. Visit the City of London Corporation [external website] for more information.

Partner secondary schools

We have a partnership agreement with several secondary schools in Islington - Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Language College, Holloway School [external website], Islington Arts and Media School [external website], Mount Carmel Technology College [external website], - and students from these schools have a guaranteed place at City and Islington College.

Islington 14-19 Partnership

We work with all local secondary schools and training providers, together with the Borough of Islington, to improve educational opportunities for young people in the borough.

Our aim is to work together to:

  • Co-ordinate our curriculum plans - making sure the range of courses meets the needs of all young people in the area
  • Raise achievement - giving young people the best chances of success
  • Improve progression - providing the best opportunities from Key Stages 3 and 4 through to post-16 courses at college, sixth forms or training providers, and then to university or employment.

Advice and guidance partnerships

We know how important it is for people to have clear information and helpful advice and guidance while choosing a course and planning a new career path. We work with the Islington Connexions Service [external website] to provide information, advice and guidance to students aged 16-19, and with the Central London Information, Advice and Guidance [external website] network to provide a service to people aged over 19, including those studying in community centres.

Working with employers

We have links with employers across the range of our curriculum areas.

Student profile

picture of Marie Barnard

Marie Barnard

I felt I needed a new challenge in life, says Marie, who is studying the Forensic Science BTEC, and I'd always been interested in forensics. I'm hoping to become a forensic practitioner and I think that this course will help a lot towards that. The teachers have been very helpful; maths is not my strong point and they were a great help with this. I've enjoyed all the practical work and the social opportunities- prior to enrolling here, I'd been bringing up my children- and the Centre for Applied Sciences has great facilities and a great atmosphere. I'd recommend the College because it's been a great place to learn and develop new skills.
