Principal's welcome

City and Islington College's Principal, Andy Forbes

I’m delighted that you are thinking of coming to study here at City and Islington College (CANDI) - the first choice Further Education College for thousands of young people and adults across London.

We receive many external awards, but we are most proud of the recognition our students give us. 95% tell us they feel respected and safe here, that the teaching is good, and they would recommend the College to a friend. In 2016 our Ofsted inspection report confirmed their high opinion of us.

The reason why we’re so popular and successful is that we offer something that’s different from school sixth form study. For a start, we have no assemblies, no bells, no uniforms.

We recognise that you are now ready to study and work in a more adult way. We expect high standards from you, but it’s all about learning to succeed in the adult world of higher education and in the modern workplace. We’re here to help you take responsibility for managing your own learning and to support you to develop the skills you need to progress on to university or into an apprenticeship.

We are a truly inclusive college. Whether you’re a high-flyer or have struggled at school, we have the right course for you. Whether you’re a bookworm or someone who enjoys practical, hands-on learning, we have the right course for you. We offer academic and vocational pathways - A Levels, BTECs and apprenticeships – all leading to the same end: a successful career.

Our unique, five Centre model gives you the opportunity to learn with a community of like-minded people. Each Centre has its own particular specialisms, and in each one you’ll be taught by staff who are specialists in their field, using industry-standard equipment and resources.

At City and Islington, you'll be able to:

Whatever you decide, you’ll be taught by highly qualified teachers who are passionate about their subject and benefit from individual support and guidance to help you succeed.

In addition, you’ll have plenty of chance to get involved in our programme of enrichment opportunities, work experience and mentoring to help you gain the employment and citizenship skills you need for further study and your career. I hope you’ll find our website packed with information about the hundreds of courses we offer. Just as important, you’ll get a flavour of what it’s like to be a student here. If you still have questions, don’t hesitate to ring or e-mail our admissions team.

I hope very much that you’ll choose to join us, and look forward to meeting you.
